Fannin County, Georgia

Recreation
Outdoor recreational opportunities are plentiful within the County. Campers, hikers, nature lovers, and anglers enjoy the Chattahoochee National Forest and Cohutta Wilderness Area. The Cohutta Wilderness Area is the largest national wilderness area east of the Mississippi River. In addition to these federal facilities, local parks include the Horseshoe Bend Park, the Blue Ridge City Park, and the McCaysville City Park.

Economy
The County's growth in per capita income (57.7%) in 2000 outpaced the growth for Northwest Georgia, the Fannin County Labor Market Area, and the state. The community's share of employment by healthcare and social services establishments is greater than such share for Georgia. Employment by retail trade firms also exceeds that of the region. Fannin County's employment in the accommodations and food services industry is also fairly rare. These are characteristics of a community with strong economic drivers such as tourism and newcomer attraction.

Education
The Fannin County Board of Education operates three elementary schools, a middle school, and a comprehensive high school which offers vocational education in an additional facility located on campus. Student enrollment for Fannin County averages above 3200. The County has consistently ranked higher in median education level than any of the adjacent counties.

Housing
Residential Construction activity in 2001 reflected a 58.4 percent over 1997, outpacing the growth in activity for Northwest Georgia (17 percent) and Georgia (23.9 percent). The median value of owner-occupied homes has increased by an astounding 81.1 percent from 1990 to 2000 in Fannin County. And in 2002 Smart Money Magazine Real Estate edition listed Blue Ridge as one of five best places in the US to purchase a vacation home. Why is this community a choice retreat? No worries about over development because 42 percent of Fannin County is National Forest Land.

Retirement
The rural life and beautiful scenery make Fannin County a popular retirement locale. A growing economic market, strong arts community & civic organizations, and scenic surroundings make it an ideal area for retirement and senior living. Located only ninety miles from Atlanta's amenities, services and healthcare make the county a strong retirement community.
