Dahlonega, Georgia

The first gold rush in America took place in Dahlonega, GA in the late 1820s. You can still experience the excitement of finding your own gold at one of the sites outside of town. Gold Rush Days

If you love outdoor festivals make sure to visit Dahlonega during the Gold Rush Days held each year during the third full weekend of October. The annual event draws more than 200,000 people and has been voted one of the top things to do in the Southeast. Our Georgia Mountains thinks it's one of the best events in the Georgia mountains.

Lumpkin County, Georgia

Lumpkin County, the 85th county formed in Georgia, was created in 1832 from portions of Cherokee, Habersham and Hall counties. The County is 285 square miles in area and is the 106th in size in Georgia. Approximately one third of the county is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The population of Lumpkin County has grown from 14,473 in 1990 to approximately 24,000 today. During that same period, Dahlonega the county seat has grown from 3,086 to about 3,500.
